Lucid Software acquires German product management startup airfocus

Hamburg/South Jordan (Utah), April 3, 2025 – German software company airfocus, the AI-powered product management and roadmapping platform, has been acquired by Lucid Software, the global leader in visual collaboration.

This acquisition strengthens Lucid’s global product strategy and highlights Germany’s growing role as a hub for innovation in product development. By adding airfocus to its Visual Collaboration Suite — which already includes Lucidchart and Lucidspark — Lucid will offer a powerful solution for product strategy, prioritization, and agile execution. Product teams around the world will benefit from a fully integrated system that bridges the gap between ideation, planning, and delivery.

Malte Scholz

We founded airfocus to solve the exact pain points many product teams experience daily — fragmented tools, lack of transparency, and inefficient prioritization. With Lucid, we’ve found the perfect partner to scale our vision and redefine the future of product leadership.

Malte Scholz
Co-founder and CEO of Airfocus

Headquartered in Hamburg, airfocus has grown into one of Europe’s most innovative product management platforms. The company offers AI-driven tools for prioritization, roadmapping, and outcome-based planning. Its modular and flexible approach has earned the trust of product teams worldwide — including companies like Ricoh, Goodyear, and Wago.

User-centric product vision leads to fast exit

airfocus’s vision has been backed since 2021 by XAnge, one of Europe’s leading early-stage VC funds.
XAnge first invested in airfocus in 2021, drawn to the founders’ vision — led by Malte Scholz and Valentin Firak — and their mission to rethink product strategy for modern, agile teams. As a Franco-German investor, XAnge actively supported airfocus’s entry into the French market, helped the Hamburg-based scale-up attract new enterprise clients, and expand its European footprint.

airfocus is the perfect complement to our suite. Their platform brings strategic depth to our offering and directly addresses the challenges faced by modern product organizations. This acquisition is a clear commitment to accelerating work through connected tools — and to the innovation potential of European tech companies.

A U.S. exit showcasing the strength of European product innovation

This exit also reflects a growing trend: despite current headwinds in Europe’s exit environment, strategic acquisitions by U.S. companies remain a vital path for successful startups to scale internationally — while generating liquidity for founders and investors.

Valerie Bures

We believe this transaction demonstrates the strength of European product innovation — even in a challenging market. It also shows that U.S. buyers are increasingly turning to German and European tech companies for talent, vision, and world-class product quality.
